The National Crime Agency of the UK on Tuesday donated a brand new Toyota-Prado vehicle to the country’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG).

The donation, according to officials, is part of their effort towards strengthening the already long-standing relationship between the two organisations in their quest to fight drug and serious organised crime.

The regional manager of NCA, David Cater, who spoke at a presentation held at the DLEAG’s headquarters in Pipeline, said: “The vehicle is meant to support DLEAG in enhancing their capacity to be able do their work effectively.”

Cater expressed appreciation of the work being done by DLEAG particularly in the use of intelligence led approach in countering drug trafficking, while pledging his organisation’s support to DLEAG and expressing hope that the partnership will continue to yield result for both organisations.

Paul Jenkins, the NCA’s international liaison officer in Dakar, emphasised the importance of law enforcement agencies working together in the fight against drug trafficking and other clandestine activities.

“There is a need to prioritise proactive investigation in targeting organised crime networks operating in the region. Again, I want to thank DLEAG for their effort in building an intelligence picture of drug trafficking activities in the country and devising strategic measures to counter them.”

For his part, Bakary Gassama, the director general of DLEAG, welcomed the donation from NCA and assured that the donated vehicle would be put into good use.

Gassama expressed deep appreciation to the NCA for the provision of the mobility support and described it as timely. “I also want to thank NCA for the partnership and assure them of DLEAG’s commitment in the fight against drug trafficking and serious organised crime.”

“Due to the fast evolving nature of organised crime, there is need of renewed partnership between the two organisations which will serve the mutual interest of both organisations.”
