UDP elects new campaign manager, Women Wing VP

The United Democratic Party (UDP) Central Committee met on Sunday, 3rd March 2024 as part of their regular quarterly meetings.

The party during the meeting elected a new campaign manager and 2nd vice president of the Women’s Wing.

Both positions were vacant and adhering to the UDP Constitution, the Central Committee is given the power to elect official/s to the National Executive in between congresses.

The 2nd Vice President Women’s Wing was held by Mrs. Nogoi Njie, who died after a prolonged illness because of the trauma she suffered from the hands of the NIA. Following her demise, the position became vacant. The second vacant position was that of the Campaign Manager.

The Central Committee is made of 133 members and 113 members were present and all voted. Three ladies vied for the position of 2nd Vice President Women’s Wing, and they were Bineh Marong, Mrs. Sainabou Joof-Jaiteh and Mrs Binta Touray. Mrs. Binta Touray won the election with 50 votes, Bineh Marong came second with 37 votes and Mrs. Sainabou Joof-Jaiteh had 26 votes. The position of Campaign Manager was contested by Yaya Karafa Sonko, commonly called Karafa Sonko and Pa Manneh. Karafa Sonko won with 73 votes while Pa Manneh had 40 votes.
