Transport minister launches GTSC TAAMO Card

The minister for Transport, Works, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, on Wednesday officially launched the Gambia Transport Service Company’s (GTSC) digital travel card dubbed TAAMO Card.

The TAAMO Card is a smart traveling card which is an initiative designed to digitalise and make less the usage of hard currency within the Gambian Transport Service system. It was launched at the GTSC head office in Kanifing.

Speaking at the ceremony, Seedy Kanyi, the general manager of GTSC in his opening statement emphasised the importance and innovative nature of the “TAAMO” Card which he said, signifies the milestone achievement inculcated in their project. He indicated that TAAMO is first of its kind in the history of The Gambia.

“This will complement government's efforts in realising its digital transformation,” he said.

“The TAAMO Card we will be launching today is one of the components for the supply of 70 new buses that were commissioned by his Excellency President Adama Barrow in April 2023. A fully renovated and re-equipped workshop, supply and installation of 70 solar-powered bus shelters, supply of two containers of base spare parts, supply of a new mobile workshop, deployment of a full-time project manager and two technicians who will be resident with us for two years,” he disclosed.

Mr. Saloum Malang, board chairman of GTSC in his remarks expressed gratitude to the government of The Gambia and TK Exports for sponsoring and overseeing the implementation of the “TAAMO” project.

He also thanked His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the whole GTSC staffs for their continuous commitment and dedication to the amazing service to the commuters.

Transport Minister. Ebrima Sillah in his statement thanked the government for commitment to support all GTSC’s endeavours for future developmental plans.

He also hailed the board of directors, management and GTSC staff for their continuous efforts and dedication to ensuring safety in road travels and ensuring the delivery of safe transport service in The Gambia.
