Supreme Islamic Council announces Thursday as 1st day of Muharam

The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council in collaboration with the Office of Imam Ratib of Banjul wishes to inform the general public that Thursday the 20th of August 2020, was the 1st day of Muharam, the 1st month of Muslim calendar 1442H.

The 9th and 10th of Muharam 1442H falls on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August 2020.

"Therefore, Tasha's and Ashura, locally known as TAMHARIT for the year 1442H, will fall on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August 2020."

Gambia Supreme Islamic Council and the Office of Imam Ratib of Banjul reminds people about the importance of fasting those two days (9 and 10 of Muharam), according to the sunnah of the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him.


"The council is hereby wishing his Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia Mr. Adama Barrow, his government, and the entire Muslim Ummah in the Gambia a blessed Muslim year."

It finally prayed for the  Almighty Allah to accept our prayers, continue to guide, and bless this nation and bring back more and more Yawmul Ashuras.
