 Spain honours GID boss

In recognition of his commitment in migration management and also fostering the country’s relationship with Spain, Seedy M. Touray, the director general of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has recently been decorated with the highest medal of Silver Cross by the Spanish Guardia Civil at a ceremony held in Madrid -Spain.

The country’s immigration boss is the first Director General (DG) of the Gambia Immigration Department to receive such a high accolade from the Spanish Guardia Civil.

The award is in recognition of DG Touray's outstanding commitment and dedication to fostering and sustaining the long standing bi-lateral relations in migration management between the Kingdom of Spain and The Gambia and most especially between the GID and the Spanish Guardia Civil.

The award ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Director General of the Guardia Civil Lt. General Pablo Salas Moreno and the head of the Maritime and Border Command Major General Carlos Crespo and other senior commanders of the Guardia Civil.

Reacting to the award in an interview with The Point, DG Touray said: “I feel elated for the award and without a doubt, it will further cement the already strong bilateral relationship between the two services. My plan has always and will continue to be transforming the GID to the best service. My objective is to ensure that GID is a service that is well respected, well connected both within and outside the country and a service that is committed to its national duty. I can assure you all that with the vibrant team that we have at the GID, we will work toward achieving our desired goals,” he posited.

The spokesperson of the GID, Mamanding S. Dibba, also congratulated his boss on the award, saying: “The award is a clear testimony that the GID and DG Touray in particular is working in the right direction. I can tell you that DG Touray’s commitment to national duty is unquestionable. His ability to relentlessly search for solutions to problems and find innovative ways to improve the service is second to none. Your determination is an inspiration to the entire management at the Immigration Department.”
