SK Jaiteh & Sons donates D136k worth of drugs to FGH

Renowned businessman and Philanthropist, Alhaji Salifu K. Jaiteh, who doubles as the proprietor of S.K. Jaiteh and Sons donated D136,000 worth of medicines to Farafenni General Hospital last night.

The gesture was described as outstanding and timely considering the amount the hospital management spent on medications on a monthly basis to protect lives.

At a ceremony held at the hospital premises last night, which was graced by the deputy governor of the region, the North Bank Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and the hospital’s management was marked with joy and laudable remarks towards Mr Jaiteh for his relentless support to the country’s health sector.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Farafenni General Hospital, Mr. Kebba Manneh extended gratitude to the Alkali-Kunda born top businessman for his kind gesture describing it as timely.

“This is the main referral hospital in the rural Gambia. We attracted referrals from LRR, CRR and even neighbouring Senegal for treatments. Every month, we spent three hundred thousand on drugs. This benevolent effort by Mr Jaiteh will enhance the hospital’s efforts to provide quality and affordable medicines to patients in terms of needs. We highly appreciate your effort to come to our aid with such quantity drugs which will enhance and maximize our staff for effective service delivery,” Mr Manneh stated.

He assured the donor of the proper utilization of the medicines emphasising that after its usage, they will put everything together to show Mr Jaiteh how the drugs were used, adding that he believes in accountability and transparency in his administration.

For his part, the deputy governor of the region, Mr Dembo Samateh, thanked Mr Jaiteh for his timely gesture, saying; this would not be the first gesture from the donor towards the hospital and shall not be the last.

“Mr Jaiteh is a patriotic citizen of Badibou who has never forgotten his home. His mind is always on the North Bank and he is always ready to support anytime we knock on his doors.

He said he would disclose to the President the important role Mr Jaiteh is playing in national development especially in the North Bank Region.

The donor, Alhaji Salifu K. Jaiteh, who doubles as the Cyprus Honorary Consul, known for his benevolence for the past three decades took time to give a descriptive background of himself before going further with reasons that motivated him to extend a helping hand to this important hospital in the region.

“Health should be everyone’s business and I cannot think of a better way to support the development of the region than to give support to this important hospital that is serving all and sundry in the most efficient manner. Through my corporate social responsibility, I deem it necessary to donate these drugs to support the efforts of the government as they cannot do it alone” Mr Jaiteh said.

Before the end of the event, CEO Manneh craved the indulgence of the top philanthropist, Mr Jaiteh to adopt a ward in the hospital which he accepted wholeheartedly.

Mr Jaiteh is known for his relentless support to the country’s health sector. The country’s main referral hospital, EFSTH last month recognised his unflinching support while the Maternity Ward of Bansang Hospital has been named after him.

Mr Jaiteh continues to significantly contribute to the socio economic development of the country through fulfillment of his corporate social responsibility in various sectors in which he has been widely hailed as a good citizen of the land.
