A series of raids across the West Coast Region has led to the arrest of seven Gambian men, including a teacher, farmer, driver and welder after agents of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) discovered large quantities of suspected cannabis, ecstasy pills, and hashish in their possession.

During the weekend, the narcotic officers spread their net across several communities from Mayork to Bafuloto, Brikama Misera, Gunjur and Darsilameh Seca uncovering a network of illicit drug dealings.

The first arrest came on 8th November 2025, when 31-year-old Bubacarr Tamba, a driver from Kanilai, was intercepted on the outskirts of Mayork around 1:40 a.m.

He was reportedly found with 46 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa, neatly concealed in cement papers and stuffed inside white and blue flour bags, along with a black motorcycle without a registration number.

Just a day earlier, 30-year-old Dawda Saidy, a welder from Gunjur, was picked up at Georgina Bar and Restaurant around 10:45 a.m. Officers said they found him with 28 pieces of suspected cannabis ruderalis (skunk) and 35 pills of ecstasy, all wrapped in a transparent plastic bag.

In another operation, 40-year-old teacher Sang E. Mendy from Kassa Kunda village was arrested at his residence the same day, around 1:25 p.m. after officers reportedly found a cannabis plantation thriving in the backyard of his home.

Meanwhile, at Darsilameh Seca village, 67-year-old farmer, Borry Barry, was arrested at 6:20 a.m. with 19 cannabis plants growing behind his compound.

The raids continued into the night of 7th November, when 23-year-old Bubacarr Sabally of Brikama Misera was caught around 8:08 p.m. with 31 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa and 27 pills of ecstasy, all hidden in foil paper, white paper and a multi-coloured nylon bag.

On the Coastal Road, 22-year-old Amadou Wury Sowe was arrested in the early hours of 8th November, around 12:10 a.m. with 36 pieces of suspected cannabis resin (hashish) concealed in black and transparent plastic bags.

By mid-morning that same day, two residents of Bafuloto, 24-year-old driver Karamo Manneh and 18-year-old Baba Galleh Conteh, were picked up in separate operations.

Manneh was found with 57 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, while Conteh was allegedly in possession of seven wraps and some loose quantities of the same substance, all hidden in white, transparent, and multi-coloured bags.

According to DLEAG, all the suspects are currently in custody, as further investigations continue into their respective cases.
