According to the Communication and Public Relations Division of the General Directorate of Customs, the Kidira Commercial Brigade, Tambacounda Subdivision, South-East Customs Region, made “the largest seizure of cocaine by land so far registered in Senegal.
“It is 1137.6 kg of cocaine packaged in 948 strips and put in bags carefully concealed in the double bottom of a refrigerated truck coming from a country bordering Senegal. The said truck, apparently empty, was targeted on the basis of relevant elements before being passed through the Customs scanner installed at the exit of Kidira, on the road to Tambacounda,” he said, adding it was indicated in the press release of which Seneweb has a copy.
According to the information received, the total value of the drugs seized is estimated at 91 billion CFA francs. “The investigation is continuing,” it also states.
It is, moreover, declared that the customs units in the South-East remain mobilised to deal with illicit trafficking with determination in accordance with the directions given by the Director General during his recent tour of this customs region.
As a reminder, elements of the Tambacounda Subdivision made a seizure of nearly 92 kg of cocaine in Koumpentoum on March 31. “These significant seizures of cocaine demonstrate, once again, the commitment of the Customs Administration and beyond, the firm desire of Senegal to fight by all legal means against organised cross-border crime, in particular drug trafficking,” underlines the Division of Communication and Public Relations in the document.
