May 9, 2023, 12:17 PM

Ousmane Sonko has been sentenced to a six-month suspended sentence on Monday by the Dakar Court of Appeal for public insults and defamation. It also confirms the amount of damages at first instance.

During his indictment, Prosecutor General Bakhoum requested two years in prison, one of which is firm against Sonko.

Mame Mbaye Niang also claimed 29 billion from Ousmane Sonko in damages.

Mr. Sonko was sentenced in March at first instance to a two-month suspended prison sentence and 200 million CFA francs. His eligibility for the 2024 presidential election could be called into question by a heavier sentence at second instance. Source: seneweb.com
