Speaking at the Global Entrepreneurship Week, he said stakeholders should continue to “build on the progress we have made, leveraging new policies, technological advancements, and the boundless entrepreneurial spirit of Gambians.”
“Together, we can make The Gambia a shining example of how entrepreneurship can drive sustainable development, create jobs, and transform lives. By embracing the theme, “Entrepreneurship is for Everyone,” we reaffirm our commitment to making entrepreneurship accessible to all, empowering individuals from all walks of life to contribute to our nation’s growth and prosperity.”
“We will be honouring and celebrating trailblazing Entrepreneurs as pioneers of development and Corporate Leaders who continue to support the Ecosystem for Entrepreneurs to start, scale and up skill and upscale for transformation and impact The Gambia under the theme Think BIG ( Believe In Gambia). They will be unveiled shortly with inspiring citations during the course of the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations.”
CEO Touray, who doubles as the ambassador, Global Entrepreneurship Network, said this year’s theme, “Entrepreneurship is for Everyone,” resonates deeply with the national vision to foster an inclusive and innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem that leaves no one behind.
“As we reflect on the achievements of the past year, I am immensely proud of the remarkable strides made by Gambian entrepreneurs who have demonstrated resilience, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to driving our nation’s economic growth,” he stated.
“In 2024, we have witnessed outstanding progress in various sectors: Innovations in Agriculture: Pioneers like G Farms have scaled their operations in poultry, dairy, and meat processing, bolstering food security and creating employment. Similarly, Mauro Rice Farms and Sahel Rice Farm have led initiatives in sustainable rice production, contributing to agricultural self-sufficiency.”
“Tech and Digital Transformation: Companies such as Afrijula Financial and Tech Solutions and incubators like JokkoLabs have been at the forefront of digital financial inclusion and technological innovation, empowering startups to embrace the digital economy. Likewise innovative companies like InnorvaX in the field of pharmaceuticals and Global Properties in innovative housing solutions.”
“Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: We are proud to celebrate the success of women-led ventures like Tresor Women Warriors, Nafa Financial Services Yaxare Company Ltd, NATURES GIFT CARE, and Ida’s Ideas Fashion Institute, which have not only transformed their industries but have also inspired countless young women to pursue entrepreneurship.”
“Creative Industries: Gambian businesses in the creative and culinary sectors, such as Casaafriqa Restaurant and Akara Factory, have continued to innovate, showcasing our rich cultural heritage while contributing to the tourism industry.”
According to CEO Touray, these accomplishments underscore the transformative impact of entrepreneurship on The Gambia’s socio-economic landscape, driving growth, job creation, and innovation.
“A highlight of this year was the Master Class on Project Finance, co-organised by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), SaHel Executive Education (SEE), and Development Perspectives UK. This impactful program equipped participants with essential financial skills, enabling them to prepare investment-ready, bankable projects for financiers.”
This initiative, he added, was particularly timely, as participants were now better prepared to leverage opportunities at the upcoming Africa Investment Forum (AIF) in Morocco.
“At last year’s forum in 2023, over $180 million worth of projects were financed by Development Finance Institutions (DFIs). This success story is a testament to the importance of preparing investment-ready projects to attract financing for development. The skills acquired through the Master Class will empower Gambian entrepreneurs to capitalise on the financing opportunities available at AIF 2024 and beyond.”
