Ousainou Sanneh, market master for Tallinding market, Wednesday testified before the Local Government Commission, shedding light over his 2018 suspension and a host of other issues.

“Why were you suspended?” Counsel Sunkary Camara asked.

Sanneh said he still could not understand the rationale behind it, explaining that he was picked up by the police at the market and taken to the Kombo Police Station.

He said when the police came, they were asking for Ous and he told them that there was no one with the name Ous. This was when they told him they were looking for the market master, leading to his eventual arrest.

“I was detained for 78 hours and I was bailed. I was arraigned in court with the allegation that I forged documents,” he testified, providing a copy of the judgment to the Commission.

Sanneh, now a market supervisor, said he gives each of the collectors tickets daily for their work. He also stated that he never received a one percent commission from the Council.

He said: “That is what I found in the system when I returned from the suspension. I used to hear market managers talking about it, but I was not part of the people receiving it. They pay collectors and some of the market masters.”
