OIC Secretariat renamed Banjul International Convention Centre

Vice President Muhammed B.S. Jallow on Friday presided over the inauguration of the OIC Secretariat officially renamed Banjul International Convention Centre Ltd. (BICC).

The ceremony was attended by key government figures, including ministers.

The former OIC Secretariat now officially transitioned to a limited liability company responsible for the management of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJ-ICC) and the VVIP Lounge at the Banjul International Airport.

Both facilities were constructed in preparation for the 15th OIC Islamic Summit which was held in Banjul from the 4-5th May 2024.

The Sir Dawda Kairaba International Conference Center, a five-star facility, stands as a beacon of sophistication and versatility in the conference landscape. It's the largest conference center in the subregion as it has the capacity to host up to 4000 participants, making it an ideal choice for events of various magnitudes.

Recently the OIC Secretariat has officially transitioned to a limited liability company and the VVIP Lounge at the Banjul International Airport, marking a significant milestone with the inauguration of its newly elected board members. 

Now renamed Banjul International Convention Centre Ltd. Board Chair Mawdo Juwara, on behalf of his team, thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and his team.

He called on all and sundry to extend support to the new leadership and asked members to actively engage in the Banjul International Convention Centre’s activities to achieve their shared goals.

He assured all members present that the new team would work assiduously to raise the image of the international convention to the highest stand.

The conference centre is equipped to host a wide range of events including seminars, conferences, workshops, annual general meetings, and other social gatherings.

Vice President Jallow commended past executive secretaries and other directors for their role in promoting the smooth operations.

“Certainly Gambia establishes itself as a key conference destination, anchored by the prestigious Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center,” he said.

Media and Information Minister Dr Ismaila Ceesay stated that the conference centre is a choice location for hosting major local and international events, pointing out President Adama Barrow's vision.

"The facilities are available and the conference centre is of high standard of conferences in the world. The aim is to transform this county in line with President’s vision to a conference hub which will gain more tourists."
