The award, presented by ECREEE and ECOWAS in collaboration with the government of The Gambia, celebrates AIC Green Energy’s commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure and its role as the first private company to invest in a large-scale solar power project in the country.
The recent recognition of the company at an international forum clearly demonstrates its unwavering commitment to solar energy and its confidence not only in The Gambia’s potential, but in its global relevance as a trusted energy partner.
Speaking at the forum, Dennis Elverir, managing director of AIC Green Energy, expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Nani Jawara, minister for Petroleum and Energy, and Mr. Kemo K. Ceesay, director of Energy, for their leadership and support. “Hosting ESEF 2025 in The Gambia is not only an honour but a powerful signal of the country’s ambition to lead Africa’s energy transformation,” Elverir said.
“AIC Green Energy is currently finalising a Power Purchase Agreement for a landmark 5 MW solar power plant, set to be the first of its kind in The Gambia. Once operational, the facility will supply clean electricity to over 6,500 households, significantly reducing reliance on imported fuels and enhancing national energy security.”
“The company’s recognition at ESEF 2025 underscores its strategic alignment with The Gambia’s national development agenda, which places sustainability and renewable energy at its core. Under the leadership of His Excellency the President and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, the country is actively pursuing initiatives to expand grid capacity, attract investment, and create skilled employment opportunities.”
“Beyond its flagship solar project, AIC Green Energy is already deploying local talent to construct substations and deliver high-level technical work across the country. The company also has its sights set on international expansion, with plans to export Gambian engineering expertise to future projects abroad.”
“We believe in The Gambia’s potential, not just as a market, but as a source of innovation and excellence,” Elverir added. “This award is a testament to what can be achieved when public and private sectors work hand in hand.”
As the region looks to scale up its renewable energy ambitions, AIC Green Energy’s success story stands as a model for sustainable development, local empowerment, and international collaboration.
