NEA files case against importation of banned plastic bags

An official of the National Environment Agency (NEA), Mr. Ebrima Sillah, yesterday filed a case before Principal Magistrate Isatou Sallah-Mbai of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court against one Mustapha Jobe, who was charged on a single count of importation of banned plastic bags contrary to Section 9 (1) (a) of the Ban on Plastic Bags Order, 2015.

The NEA alleged that the accused, Mustapha Jobe, on or about the 2nd August, 2024, at Serekunda, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, willfully engaged in the importation of banned plastic bags into The Gambia without any authority.  He denied any wrongdoing.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of D250,000 with a Gambian surety in the like sum. The surety should provide his or her ID card or passport which should be deposited with the registrar of the court. He will be held responsible If the accused absconds.

Sergeant 4195 A. Baldeh was prosecuting the case, which was adjourned to the 23rd September, 2024, for the National Environment Agency to call their witnesses.
