NDMA urged to account for over D100M Covid funds

The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly has stated that the executive director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) “must” account for all undelivered food items worth over D100 million on or before the 25th September, 2023 as part of covid-19 relief food packages.

According to the report, NDMA’s executive director should explain to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and notify the FPAC, failure of which, the IGP must launch an investigation.

The report also urged the executive director of the NDMA to explain the shortage of delivery of oil by the international commodity insurance worth D37, 653,700.00 by 25th of September 2023. The report further stated that NDMA should notify the Accountant General, the Auditor General and FPAC, failure of which will lead to an immediate investigation by the IGP. 

The reported added NDMA boss should provide the Auditor General and the FPAC the certificate of confiscation of the damaged food items by Food Safety and Quality Authority (FSQA) on or before the 25th of September 2023.

The report stated that based on the evidence obtained by the auditors and lapses identified, sufficient information and documentation was not received from NDMA to substantiate transportation and distribution of the food relief to vulnerable households.
