Professor Gomez was speaking at a press briefing held at his office on Friday. The press conference was attended by the minister of Information and Media Broadcasting Dr. Ismaila Ceesay and National Security adviser to the president.
Gomez said that to de-escalate tensions, the government has engaged both students and staff to propose adjustments, including shifting examination schedules in consultation with students. This would provide a window for constructive negotiations, allowing for the restoration of normalcy at the University of The Gambia (UTG).
Prof. Gomez reiterated that the government’s priority remains the well-being of students, staff, and the integrity of the University.
"We are confident that with continued dialogue and goodwill from all sides, a lasting solution will be achieved," he said.
According to him, MoHERST, in close collaboration with key stakeholders is committed to resolving this matter in a fair, impartial and constructive manner.
However he said it is essential to underscore that the government remains neutral, with no bias toward any party, and is focused solely on fostering dialogue and achieving a sustainable resolution.
