The incident happened on Saturday during the village knockout finals played between the Swe-gam F.C and Baduma United F.C at the village main mini park.
The injured were transported to the Brikama District Hospital for medical treatment
The knock out final match ended in 1-1 draw regulation time. And both teams were later separated in a penalty shootout with Baduma United FC winning 3-2.
Being crown knockout champions, fans of Baduma United F.C then erupted into ecstasy celebrating the heroic performance of their team.
However, the celebrations, which went into dark was cut short when a speeding mini-truck loaded with stones coming from Bullock Quarry rammed into jubilant fans from behind.
One Saffiatou Touray alias (Nana) died on the spot. The injured which includes a seven (7) year-old and others, were immediately referred to the Kafuta Health Centre and later evacuated to Brikama Major District Hospital
Immediately, after the incident, the driver immediately fled the scene and his whereabout remains unknown at the time of going to press.
According to some eyewitnesses, the driver was speeding even though some signalled him to slow down as he approached the crowd. Others also shared the view that the truck has faulty-brakes while his poor lighting system to view long distance especially at night may have also contributed to the incident.
Our correspondent, who is also a resident of Kafuta on arriving at the scene, observed that all the injured victims were referred to Brikama District Hospital for further treatment.
He, however, observed the tense mood at the scene with families and friends weeping over their loved ones.
He also observed at the accident site a heap of shoes that were gathered apparently belonging to those involved in the accident. This, he concluded goes to show the severity of the accident.
After the accident, the news quickly spread sending shock across a wider spectrum as family, loved ones and even well wishers poured in their number at the site to look for their relatives.
However, the body of one of the deceased, which was released to the family was laid to rest at the village cemetery yesterday.
Meanwhile, some of those seriously injured are currently battling with their injuries at the hospital, as families, friends and loved ones come to terms with this tragic incident.
Information reaching this paper revealed that the driver immediately report himself to a nearby Police Check Point in Faraba Sutu.
