Chairman of the Board Mr. Alpha Barry says: “It is with a heavy heart that we share this sad news of the passing of our beloved Mr. Townsend. This loss is profoundly felt across our entire school community, and we extend our deepest condolences to his two sons, his parents, his family, and everyone who knew and loved him.
Mr. Townsend was not only a dedicated leader but also a passionate educator and a cherished member of the Marina International School family. His legacy of kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the students will forever remain in our hearts. He touched countless lives, and his impact will be remembered with deep admiration and gratitude.”
The school is offering counselling sessions to students and staff who need support at this difficult time. There is also an online book of condolences for those who wish to share their memories of Mr. Townsend.
Mr. Rodney Drover, Director of Schools at Marina, was one of the first to write his message of condolence: “It’s hard to believe that we met as strangers just last year and quickly formed a bond as colleagues and friends…We were a great match, and I will deeply miss our conversations and the friendships we built. Thank you for being a part of my life. Until we meet again, my friend, you will always hold a special place in my heart. Rest in peace.”
Marina will be holding a Memorial Service in honour of Mr. Townsend on Friday 20th September. This is open to students, colleagues, and parents of the Marina family.
Mr. Barry concludes: “In moments like these, it is important to hold onto the bonds that connect us as a community. As we grieve, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: ‘What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.’ Mr. Townsend will always be a part of the Marina family, and his legacy will continue to inspire us all. May his soul rest in peace, and may God grant his family, friends, and our entire school community comfort and strength.”
