
The accident involved a BMW vehicle without a number plate, driven by Albert Pierrera, a 19-year-old resident of Kerr Sering. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was engaged in drift or stunt driving when he lost control of the vehicle at Manjai Junction, veered off the road, and struck four pedestrians.
The crash resulted in injuries to four victims, including one fatality:
- Ousainou Kebbeh, 19, of Manjai – sustained a forehead injury, was admitted to the hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.
- Amie Magassy, 19, of Kotu – treated and discharged.
- Muhammad Jagana, 16, of Kotu – treated and discharged.
- Muhammad Jagana, 14, of Kotu – treated and discharged.
The driver was subsequently charged with "Dangerous Driving Causing Death" contrary to Section 49A of the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act 2013.
The driver was arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates' Court today, where he was remanded, and the case was referred to the High Court for further proceedings.
The Gambia Police Force strongly warns against reckless driving, including stunt and drift driving, which endangers lives. Drivers are urged to drive responsibly and adhere to traffic laws to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
