Man who allegedly assaults wife with cutlass appears in court

Gorgi Sowe, a husband who was accused of assaulting his wife with a cutlass and inflicted on her severe injuries has been arraigned before Justice E. Jaiteh of the High Court.

When the case was mentioned yesterday, state Counsel F. Drammeh informed the court that they were waiting for the police to send the file of the accused person.
 
"We are still waiting for the police to send the file to the Attorney General Chamber. It appears that the investigation is not still complete. We appeal for the case to be adjourned," she submitted.
 
Gorgi Sowe was charged with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm contrary to section 212(b) of the criminal code.


According to the particular offence, Gorgie Sowe on or about the 15th of November 2023 at Jalanbang village, Kombo Central, West Coast Region with intent to Malice, disfigure and unlawfully assaulted Amie Sowe with a cutlass on her hands and legs causing her grievous bodily harm thereby committing an offense

The Anti-Crime Unit promptly arrived at the scene and facilitated the arrest of Gorgi Sowe, who was attempting to flee. Upon the team's arrival, they discovered the victim, the man's wife, lying in a critical condition, having sustained multiple severe lacerations to both legs.

During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of the alleged weapon, a cutlass, which was recovered from his residence, along with his bed and clothing.

The victim received immediate medical attention and was initially rushed to Brikama Hospital. Subsequently, she was transferred to Ndemban Clinic, where she remains admitted for further medical treatment and care.


The case was adjourned until 12 December 2023
