Idle conduct lands 9 ladies in court

Nine nationals of Nigeria were yesterday arraigned and charged before Magistrate M. Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for idle and disorderly conduct contrary to Section 166(C) of the Criminal Code.

The accused included Mary Ugbije, Mercy Ucheh, Faith Kingsley, Juliet Obiho, Victoria Augustine, Chima Alice, Ougochi Ottah, Gift Udekalu and Tope Adebowale.

According to the charge sheet, the accused sometime in September 2023 at the Senegambia and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Further, the accused persons pleaded guilty of the act but denied the fact of the case presented in court by First Class Badjie representing the Inspector General of Police.

Notwithstanding, they were granted bail each in the sum of D100, with photocopies of their Residential Permit.

Magistrate M. Faal cautioned them that if they failed to report to court, their bail would be forfeited to the State.

It would be recalled that on Monday 2 October 2023, 11 women including Gambians, were arraigned before Magistrate Dun Njie on similar counts of idle and disorderly conduct.

The case presided over by Magistrate M. Faal was adjourned till 14 November 2023.
