Jeng’s appointment marks a notable development in the leadership of the country’s tourism sector, one of The Gambia’s key drivers of economic growth.
Prior to her appointment, she served as Director of the Gambia Tourism Board’s Tourism Office in London, where she was instrumental in promoting The Gambia as a destination in the European market. She was later redeployed to Farato as head of the Regional Tourism Office for the West Coast Region.
Njie joins a short list of women who have led the tourism board, following Binta Jobe, who made history as the first woman to head the GTB. Industry observers say her international exposure and regional experience position her to steer the board at a critical time for tourism recovery and reform.
