Officials of the Ministry of Health on Monday appeared before the Finance and Public Account Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly to answer questions regarding the review of the Audit Report on Covid-19 (phase 2).

Muhamadou Lamin Jaiteh, permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, who responded to questions raised by deputies regarding the payment of Covid-19 funds to workers, said there is evidence of the payment vouchers as requested and that copies of those vouchers can be a reference. He added that this is already captured in the report.

PS Jaiteh told deputies that the list needs to be updated and shared with auditors.

“We have a voucher and we realised that our master list does not contain or capture the workers who were not government employees, so we’re paying them over the counter.”

To prove that, he said, he needs to provide that list. “We are trying to highlight the portion of the list that was not captured to make it comprehensive.”

According to PS Jaiteh, the set of vouchers in the report and their respective voucher numbers have an attachment of the payees.

Agnes Macaulay, who represented the Accountant General’s Office, said the Accountant General’s Office coordinates the audit for government.

She explained that her office also engages with stakeholders to support any institution that is being audited.

Sering Mass Jallow, the director of Audit at National Audit Office, said the PS  is supposed to work with the Accountant General to provide those payment vouchers and its attachment.
