According to Mr. Jallow, the ITAS is the main ICT based technology GRA wants to introduce to automate the domestic taxes processes.
“We expect this reform to also provide the necessary services for ease of tax payment and reduce the time spent in complying with tax obligations,” he declared.
He explained that the seminar was not just about understanding the new system, “it is about embracing a new way of thinking about tax compliance and administration, one that prioritizes transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
“As we integrate modern technology into our tax processes, we will simplify our operations, reduce errors, and provide better services to our taxpayers.” Mr. Jallow noted.
He said the reform will not only benefit taxpayers and the tax administration, but it also empowers citizens to understand their tax obligations and ensure that GRA’s tax system is fair and equitable. “There is growing recognition that the effectiveness of tax administrations cannot only be judged by the amount of revenue mobilized or indicators like revenue to GDP. It is also important to make the tax administration taxpayer-focused by ensuring that it provides quality taxpayer services.”
According to Mr. Jallow, the ITAS represents a comprehensive approach to tax administration that integrates all aspects of tax collection and management, including registration, filing, payment, reporting, arrears management and MIS, etc.
He said this system not only enhances operational efficiency but also fosters transparency and trust among taxpayers and the government.
“Therefore, this seminar is conducted to enlighten you about ITAS and its benefits in terms of streamlining tax collection and improving compliance.”
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the World Bank Group for financing the project and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs for providing support to the GRA’s ongoing reform initiatives.
