GRA commissioner of Customs addresses IT officers on ISO Gap Analysis

The Commissioner of Customs at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Alhagie K. Mbye on behalf of the Commissioner General has addressed GRA IT officers on International Standard for Information Security Management called ISO 27001 Gap Analysis.

The 10 days training that started on Thursday, was organised and supported by GRA. It is designed to build the capacity of the IT officers on ISO 27001 Gap Analysis.

Commissioner Mbye said this professional evaluation would assess GRA’s current information security posture against the ISO 27001 standard, identifying improvement areas and recommending solutions.

According to acting Commissioner General Mbye, the gap analysis focuses on the current compliance; maturity level, compliance gaps, resource needs and action plan respectively.

Regarding commitment to the initiative, Commissioner Mbye said the dedication to this initiative is aligned with GRA’s strategic objectives and the need to secure its revenue mobilisation efforts. He said in today landscape of sophisticated cyber threats, protecting data integrity is essential.

“By adopting international standards, we do not only safeguard our revenue streams but also build public trust in our operations,” Mr. Mbye said.

According to him, this initiative is vital to GRA’s modernisation strategy. “A strong Information Security Management System (ISMS) will allow us to proactively address potential threats, ensuring secure and effective revenue mobilisation. He reminded the participants that GRA’s commitment transcends compliance. “It fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the GRA. The ISO 27001 Gap Analysis is a pivotal step towards enhanced security and operational excellence.”

He thus encouraged all stakeholders to support this initiate as they work together to protect revenue mobilisation efforts and uphold the integrity of the GRA.
