The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), Mama Kandeh, has once again reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Adama Barrow ahead of the December 5, 2026 presidential election.
Kandeh made the declaration during the ongoing GDC-NPP Alliance nationwide tour, an initiative aimed at engaging supporters and communities across the country ahead of the highly anticipated polls.
The tour seeks to directly reach GDC supporters, explain the political understanding between the Gambia Democratic Congress and the National Peoples Party (NPP), and communicate Kandeh's position in endorsing President Barrow's re-election bid.
Through community meetings, consultations and face-to-face engagements, alliance leaders have been outlining the rationale behind the partnership while encouraging supporters to embrace the arrangement and rally behind President Barrow in the forthcoming election.
Beyond mobilising political support, the tour is also providing a platform for meaningful interaction between alliance leaders and local communities. Residents have been given the opportunity to raise concerns and discuss issues affecting their livelihoods, including access to electricity, road infrastructure, youth employment, education, healthcare and other essential social services.
According to alliance officials, the engagements are intended to strengthen communication between the leadership and grassroots supporters while enhancing public understanding of the objectives underpinning the political partnership.
The nationwide outreach is also aimed at fostering cooperation between supporters of both political parties, promoting unity and communicating the alliance's shared vision ahead of the presidential election.
By travelling across various regions of the country, the delegation hopes to ensure that its message reaches communities at the grassroots level, while reinforcing support for the alliance's political direction.
The Kandeh-led GDC-NPP Alliance tour is expected to play a key role in mobilising supporters and consolidating backing for President Barrow's candidacy as the country gears up for the December 5, 2026 presidential election.
As the election campaign gathers momentum, alliance leaders say continued engagement with communities remains central to their strategy of building trust, addressing development concerns and strengthening grassroots participation in the democratic process.
