The Gambia has lost another illustrious son and diplomat, Ousman Sallah, who passed away yesterday Sunday and was buried the same day in The Gambia.

Born in 1938, the late Ousman Sallah was Gambia’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1974 to 1978, ambassador to the United States of America from 1978 to 1982, and then Permanent Representative to the United Nations till 1994.

“Uncle Ousman Sallah was one of The Gambia’s finest: statesman, diplomat and a respected elder, a consummate gentleman, a loyal friend and my uncle all in one,” Ebou Jallow, a nephew to the late man said in his post.

“He was in a class of his own even in his eighties. Days ago he called me to discuss about some events he was writing in his voluminous autobiography…our covert campaigns in Washington DC back in 1996 when we started the ‘Struggle’ against Jammeh.”

He added: “Ousman Sallah is the unsung hero who helped bring about change in The Gambia. He lived a very dignified life and gave his all to his country. I will surely miss you a lot Uncle Ousman.”
