Digital Comms minister calls on Ministry of Public Service

The minister for Communication and Digital Economy (MoCDE), Hon. Lamin Jabbi and his Senior Management Team (SMT) on Monday January 20, 2025 made a courtesy call on the SMT of the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS).

Permanent Secretary (PS) at the Ministry of Public Service, Pateh Jah welcomed Hon. Lamin Jabbi and his senior management team to the Ministry of Public Service.

PS Jah explained the rationale behind Minister Jabbi and team’s visit which was basically to seek strong cooperation and collaboration with MoPS towards an initiative on establishing digital identification and transformational public service delivery framework for enhanced socio-economic growth, and also to bring onboard all public service institutions to leverage on ICT infrastructural development and operationalisation to engineer economic growth.

The minister for Public Service, Hon. Baboucar Bouy, described Minister Jabbi and team’s visit as important with regard to seeking partnership between the two ministries.

“We are happy to receive you and your team, and for the need to discuss and exchange ideas as to how the two ministries can collaborate on leveraging Digital/ICT transformation within public sectors for the betterment of the nation,” Minister Bouy said.

The minister of Communication and Digital Economy (MoCDE), Hon. Lamin Jabbi, commended MoPS for the warm welcome accorded to them.

He stressed that MoPS as a supervisory public service institution, needs to be equipped and also train their staff to be proficient with ICT skills in order to do their work effectively and efficiently.

“We collectively need to embrace change as players of public service deliveries, because ICT software transformation on security and/or data sensitivity issues on public services is critical, but of crucial endeavour,” Hon. Jabbi explained.

According to Minister Jabbi, there is a need to have an MOU between MoPS and amongst public sector institutions on leveraging Digital/ICT software administrative systems for accountable governance or democratic administrative service delivery.

To achieve this, he added, both his Ministry and MoPS ought to have in a place clear-cut legal and policy framework designed, formulated and implemented together successfully.

Heads of department at MoPS also highlighted their Digital/ICT gaps and challenges before Minister Jabbi and team.
