The district youth chairpersons of the 11 districts of the Central River Region have signed a petition against regional youth chairperson, Ebrima Sanyang, calling for his resignation.

The district youth chairpersons said they have no confidence in Mr. Sanyang’ leadership and accused him of fostering an atmosphere of hostility, retaliation and unethical behaviour in his services.

The petition signed by Abdou J. Ceesay, vice chairperson for CRR youth committee, 11 district youth chairpersons of CRR and two executive members and addressed to the National Youth Council (NYC) executive director indicated that: “We regretfully wrote this letter after taking votes and receiving a majority to release this information. Unfortunately circumstance has left us with no other recourse. We have lost trust, faith and confidence in the chairman, Ebrima Sanyang’s ability to lead this committee.”

It added: “Following the bad behavioural leadership he is trying to introduce within the young people of the region, we deem it necessary to write this vote of no confidence for him to step-down from his position as the chairperson of the regional youth committee CRR.”

The petition also indicated that Ebrima Sanyang has established a pattern and practice of inequitable treatment of youth in the region; “his lack of leadership, mismanagement and relationship between him and the young people of the region can no longer be tolerated,” it added.

According to the petition, confirmation has been made by both the district youth chairpersons and executive members of the regional youth committee that he has been conducting series of activities in the region without involving the district youth chairpersons and regional youth committee.

The Point contacted Alhagie Jarju, executive director for the National Youth Council (NYC) via WhatsApp for confirmation, but said he was out of jurisdiction. However, a source familiar with the matter said Mr. Jarju has received the petition.

For his part, Ebrima Sanyang, regional youth chairperson for CRR declined to comment on the matter.
