The scholarship is an annual programme since its inception in 2017 for both students and staff of the University of The Gambia doing excellently in their specific areas.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Herbert Robinson said the scholarship to the students serves as motivation and a way for them to enhance their education and work towards national development.
He added the embassy has been sponsoring at least 20 students every year in various majors to pursue their degree programme.
The scholarship benefit involves full annual tuition fee for the beneficiaries which is paid directly to the UTG.
He urged the continuation of the support to help the underprivileged students go through their degree programmes.
His Excellency Ma Jianchun said the scholarship is to support outstanding and underprivileged students to encourage them to work harder in order to build a better future for themselves and contribute to national development.
Jainaba Sanyang, a beneficiary, thanked the Chinese ambassador for awarding her and the rest the opportunity to achieve their goals.
