‘Barrow’s worst mistake is removing Manjang as SSHFC MD’

May 5, 2020, 1:31 PM

Former Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs has lashed out at and described it as one of the worst mistakes by the Barrow led-administration to remove Mohamadou Manjang as managing director of the Social Security and Housing Finance Cooperation and redeploying him to Senegalo-Gambia Secretariat.

Amadou Sanneh, who was speaking in a telephone interview with our reporter last Friday, acknowledged that when Manjang took over as managing director at the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation, he brought a lot of positive changes to the institution after years of mismanagement.

He indicated that Manjang is a financial expert, questioning what he will do at Senegalo-Gambia Secretariat.

Sanneh further explained that, series of financial mismanagement have been taking place at SSHFC, affirming that when Manjang took over, due to his financial experience he was able to regulate the office in all areas. This, he said, was why he was at one-time having problems with his staffs.

Due to Manjang’s wealth of experience in finance and his ability to control SHHFC during his tenure, Sanneh observed that even pensioners are now enjoying better amounts compared to before his tenure.

The ex-Trade Minister thus called on government to stop taking credit that they reduced pump price as a result of Covid-19, saying the reduction in pump price was long overdue, as it has been drastically reduced globally.
