
Highlighting their achievements, particularly in disaster management, health, and well-being as key areas of focus, Mr Ebou Faye Njie, the Secretary General of GRCS, expressed gratitude to the Gambian government, especially the Ministry of Health, for their tremendous support in achieving their successes.
Fabakary Kalleh, president of GRCS, briefed the Gambian President on the Society's activities and cooperation with the government. He highlighted key developments, including their position on the International Humanitarian Map and the recent appointment of Prof. Muhammed M.O. Kah as the Vice Chairperson of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for the next four years.
He also informed the President of their intention to host the Pan-African Conference, bringing together all African societies in The Gambia, and their role as the Chairperson of the SAHEL committee, which includes 11 Red Cross member countries.
Reacting, President Barrow assured the GRCS of his administration's support and recognised the humanitarian work the Society is doing to complement the government's efforts in various sectors.
The GRCS was established by an Act of Parliament in 1966. The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Yusupha Touray, accompanied the team to the State House.
