The President extends his heartfelt appreciations to the OIC Secretariat, Security Institutions, National Environment Agency, National Disaster Management Agency, Municipal Councils and other stakeholders for their professionalism, commitment and outstanding performance before, during and after the successful conclusion of the Summit.
Significantly, the OIC is the second largest international body of nation-states after the United Nations. The 15th Summit in The Gambia was an important forum for building economic, political, social, and religious ties, as well as strengthening cooperation and solidarity between Member States in view of protecting the rights and interests of the Islamic World.
With the Banjul Declaration, the OIC leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Organization’s core principles and objectives of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Member States, non-interference in internal affairs of States, and promoting peaceful resolutions of disputes. They equally emphasized the noble values of unity, brotherhood, peace, solidarity, compassion, tolerance, equality, justice, and safeguarding human dignity.
As the Chairperson of the OIC for the next three (3) years, President Barrow reaffirms his commitment to steering the Organization in the right direction while projecting The Gambia’s global image as a champion of democracy, a beacon of good governance and respecter and defender of the rule of law. The impressive social and infrastructural developments across the country in preparation for the Summit, will serve as an enduring legacy of Mr Barrow’s national YIRIWAA programme.
President Barrow therefore, extends sincere gratitude to all Gambians for their demonstrated loyalty and tremendous support, reflective of their true sense of patriotism. He urges all citizens to maintain peaceful co-existence and unity under one Gambian flag for the continuous development of our dear nation.
