“I’ve seen that there are talks going on to coalition in order to remove my government, but I want to let them know if they believe themselves individually, there’s no need for alliance or coalition,” Barrow declared.
“There’s no need for coalition. Come one by one, we all contest for the election so that we can all know who is powerful.”
The Gambian leader described the coalition talks as ‘empty’ talks, arguing that it would be impossible for several political leaders with presidential ambitions to agree on one candidate.
“All of them want presidency at the same time. Therefore, this will not yield to anything because we cannot have 10 presidents at the same time in one country,” he said.
Barrow used the occasion to defend his government’s development record, saying the National People’s Party government has delivered roads, electricity, water, schools and hospitals across the country.
“You want development, you want water, you want electricity, you want roads, you want schools, you want hospitals and we have been delivering all of these in The Gambia,” he said.
The president also pointed to recent progress in higher education and professional training, saying Gambians can now study medicine, dentistry and engineering in the country without travelling abroad.
“Today, we have doctors graduating in this country without travelling outside. We even graduated dentists recently in this country,” he stated.
According to Barrow, such progress had never happened in the history of The Gambia, adding that his government created opportunities for Gambians to gain professional qualifications and work at home.
He further promised that the country would witness even greater development between 2027 and 2031 if his government is re-elected.
“The development that we will do in the country will be history in the history of The Gambia,” Barrow said.
Barrow expressed confidence that the NPP would secure another landslide victory in the next presidential election, insisting that Gambians support his government because of its development agenda.
“We are going to win in a landslide way more than we did in 2021,” he declared.
