AU chair holds talks with Putin on possible ceasefire

The President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall, spoke with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on telephone on Wednesday 9 March 2022 about a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.

Speaking in his capacity as Chairman of the African Union, Mr. Sall discussed with the Russian President to seek ways to find a consensus for a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine.

On his Twitter account, he wrote: “I welcome my meeting this morning with President Putin in my capacity as Chairman of the African Union to seek a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine.  I salute his attentiveness and his availability to maintain the dialogue for a negotiated outcome to the conflict.”
