Anti-Corruption Bill progresses at Assembly

The Anti-Corruption Bill (ACB) has been moved to the consideration stage at National Assembly on Thursday.

The bill, if passed will see the establishment of a permanent Anti-Corruption Commission aimed at curbing corruption.  

After concluding the clause-by-clause review at the the consideration stage, Deputy Speaker Hon Seedy S.K. Njie, brought the session to a close and declared that the ACB will be read for the third time on Tuesday 20th September 2023.

After its first presentation on 20 March 2023, the bill was again tabled on 27 March 2023 for members to engage in the second reading on the consideration stage of the bill.

The bill passed consideration stage after a heated debate from members, as to which clauses in the Bill should be amended and those they thought should stand as they were, with guidance from the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Honorable Dawda A. Jallow.

Subsequently, after members debated back-and-forth on the amendments of some clauses, majority agreed for it to pass for consideration.
