Amir Trawally calls for unity over division at 48th Jalsa Salana

Baba F. Trawally, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in The Gambia has called on followers to embrace unity over division, to choose dialogue over discord and peace over conflict.

Amir Trawally made this call at the official opening ceremony of the 48th Jalsa Salana Annual Islamic Conference held on Friday 10th April 2026 at Nusrat Senior Secondary School premises that brought together various stakeholders from beyond the sub region.

The three-day conference was convened under the theme: “The Holy Qur’an; Solution for the Challenges of the Modern World.”

He further challenged followers to return to the Holy Qur’an, to make it a guidance to every aspect of their life and to seek solutions in its teachings, emphasising that peace is not just a national necessity, but a moral and spiritual obligation.

He noted that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat remains committed to promoting the teachings of the Holy Qur’an through education, moral training and humanitarian service.

He assured their continued efforts to work with all stakeholders to promote peace, unity and development across the country.

“The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has always stood firmly for peace, loyalty and service to one’s nation. Our guiding principle is simple yet profound: “Love for All, Hatred for None” he said.

He added that His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Spiritual and Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has repeatedly emphasized the significance of justice, peace and unity in society.

“Let us reflect on our responsibilities, not only as Muslims, but as citizens of this great nation. Let us renew our pledge to uphold justice, to respect one another and to work collectively for the progress of The Gambia, guided by the teachings of the Holy Qur’an,” he called.

“The challenges of the modern world, whether moral decline, family breakdown, corruption, injustice or violence, cannot be solved through material means alone. They require spiritual solutions and the greatest source of spiritual guidance is the Holy Qur’an,” he said.    

He described The Gambia as a land of peace, harmony, tranquillity, where people of different faiths live side by side, “we should all be tolerant, respect each other and live in peace and harmony with one another. We should always remember that without peace there can be no progress and development and without peace we cannot even worship Allah Almighty properly.”

Bakary Y. Badjie, minister of Youth and Sports revealed that apart from providing education, the Ahmadiyya Jamaat continues to improve the lives of Gambians through their programs, including building morals of young people and promotion of peace.

He applauded the Jamaat leadership for their developmental efforts in the country. Minister Badgie assured government support with respect and recognition of the Jamaat’s contribution of their various development projects.
