Dawda Jallow, who was charged along with one Biran Bah with conspiracy on Thursday, told the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that he was electrocuted by the police when he was arrested.

Both accused persons were alleged to have obtained the sum of D311,200 from one Binta Touray under the pretext that they were going to make her rich by doubling the money.

In his defence, Dawda Jallow testified that it was around 3 a.m. when he was arrested and taken to Bakoteh Police Station. He stated that he was from Sasika in Jarra. “Kebba Touray, a police officer, asked me to stand aside. I was then electrocuted. He asked me whether I knew one Omar. He also asked me where the money was. I told him that I did not take any money. Some police officers entered an office with Binta Touray and later came out and said that it was Binta Touray who told them that I took her to the bush. I denied this. I was in Omar’s house together with Babucarr Gano and Biran Bah when I was arrested. This was my first time to go to Jarrra Soma.”

Also testifying before Magistrate Touray, Biran Bah told the court that it was Binta Touray who accused him of taking her to the bush and gave her some spiritual medicine. “I never did that. I know nothing about the case,” he told the court. He said he had nothing more to tell the court. He was later cross-examined by Prosecutor Camara to test his credibility.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until 23rd April, 2025, for the prosecuting officer to cross-examine Dawda Jallow.
