While he was wanted, the latter surrendered to the Saly Research Brigade last Monday. He admitted to the facts he is accused of and lifted the veil on the accounting related to the expedition that left around forty dead and dozens missing.
According to his story, given to investigators, C. Sall was transporting 88 illegal migrants. Apart from his family members and a few neighbors from his neighborhood in Mbour, Thiocé-Est, all the candidates for the trip to Spain paid between 200,000 and 500,000 CFA francs. The accused, who swears he does not know the exact amount collected, nevertheless says he is sure he collected more than 10 million CFA francs.
Part of the money was naturally used to cover the costs related to the perilous adventure. These are distributed as follows, according to C. Sall's financial statements: a 40 horsepower outboard motor at 2.6 million, 3 million for fuel stored in cans purchased at 900,000, the same amount for food for the travelers and 2.4 million given to his two wives for their daily expenses during his absence.
The alleged escort reported another important item: the marabouts responsible for "protecting" his expedition. He claims to be unaware of the amount allocated. "I frequent so many marabouts that I am no longer able to say how much I gave them," says C. Sall, quoted by L'Observateur.
After the captain, investigators arrested the fuel supplier, reports the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
