Speaking to this reporter, DLEAG spokesperson Ousman Saidybah confirmed the operation, describing it as a “significant breakthrough.” He said the sting was carried out by the CRR DLEAG Command in collaboration with the Basse and LRR DLEAG Commands, the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) of The Gambia Police Force, and The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS).
“The operation began around 2:00 a.m. on October 10th and led to the arrest of nine individuals, including two alleged child offenders. Two cannabis plantations were discovered on the outskirts of Sawma Kunda village,” Saidybah stated.
He added that the arrest of Essa Jawo, 28, of Mbafaf village, was pivotal to the operation. Jawo’s interrogation reportedly led to the apprehension of the remaining suspects.
Authorities also recovered two motorcycles believed to be used in connection with the illicit activities.
DLEAG management has commended the Inspector General of Police, the CRR PIU, and the GFRS Command for their support and collaboration in the successful operation.
