3 face conspiracy, cattle theft case

Gorgi Camara, Kemo Ceesay and Sira Danso were arraigned yesterday before Magistrate Mben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and charged with three counts of conspiracy contrary to Section 368 of the Criminal Code and three counts of cattle stealing contrary to Section 255 of the Criminal Code.

According to count one, on or about the 6th October, 2023, at Kanifing South, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, Gorgi Camara and Kemo Ceesay conspired among themselves with intent to commit a felony therein to wit cattle theft.

Count two stated that they stole one nanny goat valued at D7,000 being the property of one Badou Njie. Prosecutors on count three alleged that on the 16th of July, 2023, Gorgi Camara and Sira Danso conspired among themselves with intent to commit a felony to wit stealing.

Gorgi Camara, Sira Danso and Kemo Ceesay were also alleged on count four to have stolen two goats valued at D16,000 being the properties of one Momodou Ceesay on or about the 16th July, 2023, at Kanifing.

Prosecutors alleged on count five that Gorgi Camara and Sira Danso conspired among themselves, in the month of March, 2023, at Kanifing, with intent to commit a felony.

Gorgi Camara, Kemo Ceesay and Sira Danso, according to count six, sometime in the month of March, 2023, at Kanifing, allegedly stole four sheep valued at D32,000 being the properties of one Musa Jobe.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

The prosecuting officer, Sub-Inspector Baba Jallow, objected to the bail of the first accused person, fearing that he may commit similar offences if granted bail. “I am a responsible person. I beg the court to grant me bail,” Gorgi Camara pleaded with the court.

The second and third accused persons were admitted to bail in the sum of D100.000 with two Gambian sureties who should swear to an affidavit of means and deposit their ID cards to the registrar of the court.

The case was adjourned to the 17th October, 2023, for ruling on the bail of the first accused, Gorgi Camara.
