The first Chairman of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Kebba E. Jallow, has applauded Talib Ahmed Bensouda, the mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council for laying the foundation for 300 million dalasis roads project within the region.

On Thursday, May 9th, 2024, the Kanifing Municipal Council initiated a road network project worth D300 million dalasi in Bakau New Town.

The project, known as the Kanifing Municipal Council Road Network Project (KMRNP), is set to span over three years. Its objective is to construct 11 roads, covering a total distance of 15.4 km, alongside 5.9 km of drainage and a land dual carriageway.

The project will be carried out by Longain Road and Bridges Company Limited and fully funded by the council through taxpayers' money.

Reacting to this development, first Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Chairman Kebba E. Jallow wrote:

“As the first Chairman of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), I am honored to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda and the entire KMC for their remarkable initiative to lay the foundation stone of the Kanifing Municipal Road Network project.

The project will supplement the efforts of the central government to mitigate the urgent road infrastructure challenges in the most densely populated part of the country.

I pray that the KMC will successfully implement this project and set a remarkable example for other councils across the country to follow.

This project has the potential to bring about significant positive changes in the lives of the people of Kanifing Municipality.”

KMC Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda has described it as the council's largest project ever, aimed at improving infrastructure to enhance quality of life and promote sustainable development.

The project will address inadequate road networks that have hindered economic growth and connectivity, while also alleviating traffic congestion and creating new opportunities for economic development and better access to essential services.
