They were 36 in number and 21 of them pleaded not guilty.
In sentencing them, the presiding magistrate told the court that the convicts pleaded guilty after the prosecuting officer, Sgt 4195 A. Baldeh, read the facts to the court. She went on to say that the convicts were charged with idle and disorderly conduct contrary to Section 166(e) of the Criminal Code. She further stated that she had tempered justice with mercy and that the convicts were first-time offenders. “If those who are not Gambians commit the same offence again, they will be deported to their countries of origin after their conviction. Those who pleaded not guilty should be detained at Mile 2 Prisons until the 29th August, 2024, for hearing, due to time constraint,” she declared.
As a result, Sgt 4195 A. Baldeh will make a line-up of his witnesses on the 29th August, 2024, to tell the court what they know about the matter.
