As Muslims around the globe enter the last ten-day of this sacred month of Ramadan, one thing that stands out in The Gambia is the level of compassion manifested thus far.

All would attest to the fact that since the start of the Holy Month, individuals, companies have all joined on board in giving out aimed at lessening the burden on vulnerable families. This is indeed commendable and we thank all who shared their wealth and resources with the vulnerable communities.

To those who wanted to but could not due to challenges, May God shower His guidance and turn all their challenges into opportunities to be able to do so next time.

Indeed, that is what major religious faiths and even humanity calls for. We need to care and share to make this world a better place.

Considered to be the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, Ramada is a month of heighted total devotion, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings. From scholars it was during this month that the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammed SAW.

However, it not only emphasizes refraining from eating and drinking only, but training in improving faith, mental coaching, morality, and understanding the meaning of difference.

Thus, it is important as Muslims to always show compassion and love to one and another. Also, this holy month is important in many senses as it teaches us self-discipline, empathy and spiritual awareness.

To the good Samaritans, philanthropists and corporate institutions, who have volunteered to share their little wealth to bring joy to the vulnerable communities, God almighty will reward you abundantly.

Let’s remember that during this month, Muslims dedicate themselves to grow spiritually and build stronger relationships with Allah. They do this by praying and reciting the Qur’an, making their actions intentional and selfless, and abstaining from gossiping, lying, fighting and many other sinful acts.

It is also a month Muslims ensure total devotion and seek God’s blessing and repentance.

Scholars added that Prophet Muhammed (SAW) during his life and time had emphasized and had shared his little with the poor by caring for them during this month. Thus, let’s follow the footsteps and teachings of ‘our beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.’

Seeking God’s blessing in this month as believers would only strengthen our faith and guide us through the right path. May Allah guide, protect and forgive all our sins and grant us a place in Al Jannah.

Together we can turn all our challenges into opportunities and make this country great.
