Good Morning Mr. President: Peace and unity; Commission of Inquiry; the new VP

Feb 27, 2023, 12:31 PM

Mr President, as we approach the local government elections slated for April 15 and May 20, we would like to call on all Gambians to be peaceful and respect divergent views within the ambit of the law.

As a nation known for peace and tranquility, we should be peaceful and promote peace and unity among our people, so that we will conduct and observe a peaceful council and mayoral elections. The election for Councillors is slated for April 15 and the one for Mayors and other administrative positions May 20.

It is good that people have their choices and democratic and civic rights to vote for whoever they like or want to represent them; but we should all wait for the polling day to come out en masse to cast our vote for our candidates and elect who we want to represent us in our various localities and municipalities.

As Gambians, we would like to note that we are kith and kin and interrelated hence politics should not divide us. Let’s pray and preach peace and unity for our beloved country.

Mr President, it is advisable that government take necessary measures to track down and punish those using audio items and the social media to incite violence, insult people, and make serious allegations without iota of truth.

Mr President, on the commission of inquiry to probe into the dealings of the area councils, we  would like to congratulate the new commissioners who took oath of office on Friday 24 February 2023 to execute and carry out their mandates and functions for the next 3 months. The personalities in the five-member commission, we are sure, are well experienced in terms of administration and management of the affairs of the country and could therefore undertake such a task to the best of their ability and in the right and just manner.

We are however looking forward to seeing an objective and peaceful conclusion of the matter.  The final report of the inquiry by the commission should guide government to take concrete actions in the interest of the nation.

Mr President on the appointment of the new Vice President, we want to first of all congratulate you and the VP Muhammad BS Jallow for the appointment and to welcome him into the political limelight and public administration once more.

We would like to say the new VP Muhammad BS Jallow is an experienced civil servant. He was Permanent Secretary in various ministries. He also served as Secretary General and Head of the Civil Service. With his experience and the support of the Cabinet ministers, we hope he would perform as expected, and coordinate well the civil service and give them more motivation, discipline and direction to serve this nation for the development of The Gambia and the betterment of her people.  We hope for the better!

Good day!
