As part of recommendations of the National Youth Employment Summit held in September 2011, the Gambia YMCA is set to stage a skills exhibition and trade fair for youth.
The event is slated for 26 to 28 December 2011 at the YMCA grounds in Kanifing.
The event will be held to create a market niche and product exposure to profile young entrepreneurs as well as the Gambia BLF Funded project beneficiaries.
Speaking to The Point yesterday at the YMCA headquarters in Kanifing, BLF funded project coordinator, Joseph Taiwo Peacock, said the event is out to showcase the entrepreneurship skills and products of young people, with a view to creating a potential market and customer base for the services they produce.
He asserted that the initiative was part of the recommendations made by young people at the September employment summit for an event to exhibit their products, which the Gambia YMCA has undertaken.
Asked about the target group, Mr Peacock said the event is purposely for young people with skills across the country to display their products at the market for sale.
The BLF funded project Coordinator impacting was quick to add that “there is no entrance fee and so all are welcome to attend and buy products on display, from 9am to 10pm daily.
“The event is not just for exhibition of products but also to exposure the young entrepreneurs,” he said.
He also appeals to the public “to come and see the great products of young people and how they are impacting in their communities as well as changing the economic status of their families”.
