Woman in 1000 Euro Theft Case

The Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbake yesterday heard a criminal theft case filed by the police against Matty Bittaye.

Ms Bittaye was charged with stealing by clerk or servant contrary to the laws of the Gambia. She vehemently denied the charges.

According to the alleged offence on count one, the accused Matty Bittaye on 10th April 2007 at Aljazeera Trading, 70 Liberation Avenue in the City of Banjul being an employee of Access Bank Gambia (Limited), stole the sum of 1000 Euro from a cash deposit of (sixteen thousand, eight hundred and seventy Euros) being payment into the account of House Tex No; 110691 with Access, property of the Bank.

While the alleged offence on count two revealed that the accused Matty Bittaye on the same day and place being an employee of Access Bank Gambia (Limited), stole the sum of D10, 000 from a cash deposit of D95, 000 being payment into the account of Aljazeera Trading N0; 112344 with Access Bank, property of the Bank.

She was granted court bail on the deposition of D33, 000 or the provision of two Gambian sureties one of whom must be in possession of landed property title deed which should be deposited with the assistant registrar.

Inspector Fadera was the prosecuting officer.
