Woman convicted for littering

Magistrate MLK Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court on 3rd May 2010, convicted and sentenced, one Amie Demba to a fine of D2500, in default to serve two months in prison after being found guilty of littering.

According to the charge sheet, the convict on 10th March 2010, at Bakau, discharged liquid waste from her house into a public gutter.

Narrating the facts of the case, prosecutors at the National Environmental Agency (NEA), Muhamadou Jallow Jabang and Adama Ceesay, stated that on that fateful day they were on patrol in Bakau.

They narrated that they visited the convict's compound where they found out that she has a pipe connected to the public gutter, allowing waste water to discharge from her bathroom.

In her plea of mitigation, the convict begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

The Magistrate, in passing the sentence stated that the court has heard her plea of mitigation, and noted that the offence committed by the convict is a very serious one.
