One Mariama Sarr was yesterday arraigned before Justice Moses Richard at the Banjul High Court charged with murder.
Mariama Sarr was alleged to have murdered her adopted daughter some time on 29th September 2008 at Alberada in Nuimi North Bank Region. She denied the charge.
Testifying, PW1, Gibril Sarr told the court that he is a fisherman and that the accused is his niece. He said he could remember 29th September 2008 and on that day he was at sea when he received a telephone massage that his niece had passed away. He revealed that before the death of the deceased, the accused husband reported for him to advise the accused to stop beating the deceased.
Gibril Sarr further told the court that the accused and her husband were later arrested and taken to Juffureh police station. He added that he was later called by the police to explain what he knew about the case.
Also testifying, PW2, Karamba Drammeh, told the court that on the 29th September 2008, the deceased passed away in the accused person's compound. He said he went to the police station and collected a police to the accused person's compound to investigate the circumstance of the child's dead. He adduced that the accused and her husband where arrested and through investigation the police found that the accused was alleged to have committed the offence.
PW3 Inspector Abdou Karim Saho, who also gave evidence on the case, told the court that he is a police officer attached to Barra Police Station. He said on 30th September 2008 he went to Juffureh Police Station to investigate the alleged murder case. He added that he went to the graveyard with the company of the accused and took photographs before obtaining statements from her.
PW4, Mustapha Bojang also a police officer stationed at Juffureh police station told the court that he too obtained statements from the accused person.
