Witness testifies in drug case

The case involving one Ousainou Trawally, charged with being in possession of prohibited drug, proceeded yesterday at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Dodou Bojang, a witness, testified, telling the court that he is a narcotics officer attached to Sibanor Police Station and that he recognised the accused person.

He said that on 15 January 2012, he was on duty at the Bullock checkpoint together with one Sarral Badjie and others when he received a telephone call from an informer that a commercial vehicle with registration number BJL 9802E was coming from Foni, heading to the Kombos and there was a person on board the said vehicle, suspected to be in possession of cannabis sativa in a black jacket he was wearing.

The narcotics officer further told the court that after receiving the information, he also related it to others, adding that upon the arrival of the vehicle at the checkpoint, they stopped it and conducted a search.

During the search, the officer explained, he found the accused putting on a black jacket, searched him and found the said jacket with the suspected cannabis.

He said the suspect was arrested and taken to their charge office and was detained and interrogated, adding that the accused confessed that he was the owner.

He adduced that the accused was later escorted to the Sibanor Police Station, where he, the witness, made a statement.

Hearing was adjourned till 15 May 2012.
